Case Study 1

Coming from Bangladesh as an adult, I found life in the UK so different a real challenge – by chance found Mulberry School and spoke to the Parent Liaison Officer – I was soon enrolled on a variety of courses at Mulberry & Bigland Green Centre that supported my English language levels and also mathematics. I went on to pass GCSE mathematics.

I took up volunteering in our child’s school.  My placement was with Modern Foreign languages – my confidence soared as I was able to help the students with their GCSE Bengali studies. This gave me the confidence to translate for the school at various events.

I have since completed NVQ level 3 Health and Social Care course and am now working in a role that I love!

Case Study 2

I first got introduced to Mulberry’s adult learning through attending a residential weekend with my daughter. Over the weekend I found out about various courses and services on offer through the Parent Liaison Officer. It was my daughter that brought me back to learning, at MBGC that I took part in Zumba, hairdressing & cake decorating courses. Soon after completing my level 3 interpreting course I started to work towards my TA level 3 qualification.  I am now working in a Tower Hamlets secondary school, as a Teaching Assistant supporting vulnerable children.

Case Study 3

Being the mum of 4 children at primary school means I never had enough time to myself. Started coming to the fitness classes here at MBGC and have made such a big impact on my life, I am fitter than I have ever been and have lots of energy to take the children to the park after school.   Have made new friends and improved my own health.
